Timothy Cho is a North Korean human rights activist, public speaker, and two-time defector. Born in North Korea, he endured multiple imprisonments in both North Korea and China before eventually reaching the United Kingdom, where he was granted asylum. His personal experience of political oppression, forced displacement, and repeated escape has made him a widely sought-after voice on questions of freedom, human dignity, and human rights.
Since arriving in the UK, he has earned a BA in International Relations and Politics from the University of Salford and an MA in International Relations and Security from the University of Liverpool. He served in the House of Commons as Parliamentary Assistant to Fiona Bruce MP and currently acts as Secretariat of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea.
Alongside his parliamentary work, he serves as Open Doors UK’s spokesperson on North Korea, focusing on religious persecution, refugees, and human rights abuses. Through his public speaking, advocacy, and policy engagement, he seeks to raise awareness of the realities of life under authoritarian regimes and the challenges faced by those who seek freedom.
